we’re sitting in a meeting,
making silly little intros.
we say our first and last names,
then go on listing our credentials —
our title, our profession —
the badge we wear with pride,
we walk around like advertisements,
now, who was given the free ride?
when my turn comes around,
i’m ill-prepared to speak.
my voice is shaking, trembling
my accomplishments are weak.
